Meet Mels, the name of a suitcase with a story to tell. It's a clever contraction of "Mental Health" that was born during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mels is a family of characters that are human, benevolent and perfect for sharing good news in these uncertain times.
Inspired by pictogram systems, the design of Mels is a sans serif with a rigorous geometry. Yet, it also has its own inconsistencies that reflect individuality in the system. These playful characters are legible even in small sizes, but they catch the eye when used in titling. The letter endings are raw, not aligned with the baseline or x-height, but following the line drawn by the barrel.
Mels is designed to be accessible to everyone, including those with visual impairments, and supports a wide range of languages. Its simple drawing is easy to decipher, and its characters are friendly and approachable. Mels is not just a font, but a symbol of hope and resilience that people can connect with.
