Barber typeface is a tribute to the beauty of traditional Vietnamese signpainting. Hand-painted signs were once a common sight in the Cho Lon area, but now are seen only on a few businesses. This typeface was designed from a barbershop sign in Saigon from the mid-1980s, until it was eventually replaced by a metal one in late 2018. Barber typeface consists of 4 font variants that create dimensional typographic effects like lighting and shadows, reminiscent of the original sign. The style was heavily influenced by 19th and 20th century European lettering. It is a fitting homage to the art of traditional Vietnamese signpainting.
